Verdict

One of the few cards that pays cashback on the free plan without a subscription, which makes it a sensible everyday pick in the UK and EEA. Treat the top plans as an investment decision: they require holding WPAY.

Pros

  • 0.5% cashback on the free Base plan, with no subscription on any plan
  • No issuance or monthly fee
  • Cashback paid in USD, not a volatile token
  • Free ATM withdrawals up to €200 a month in the EEA

Cons

  • Not available in the US
  • Higher plans need a large balance and a share of it held in WPAY
  • Conflicting information on FX fees between the product page and the EEA terms
  • Physical card delivery costs €5–15

Overview

In the EEA the card is a prepaid Mastercard issued by Transact Payments Malta; in the UK and other regions Wirex Limited is the issuer.

Cashback depends on your plan: Base pays 0.5%, and Premium, Elite, Private and Bespoke raise it to 1%, 3%, 5% and 8%. Each plan needs a minimum balance and a minimum share of your portfolio in WPAY, Wirex’s token.

Some older Wirex help articles still describe cashback paid in WXT; the current Wirex litepaper says cashback is paid in USD.

We haven’t run a hands-on test of this card; this review is based on the issuer’s published documents linked on this page.

Is it worth it? Quick math

Entry tier, €1,000 a month of everyday spending in the card’s currency, first year, compared with a plain 2% cash-back card. Only the verified figures above are used.

Cashback earned

Card fees (issuance + 12 × monthly)
€0
Net value, year one
€60
Plain 2% cash-back card
€240

At this spend, a plain 2% cash-back card earns €180 more. Higher tiers pay more, but may need staking, a balance or a paid plan — see the tiers above.

Cashback paid in a volatile token can be worth more or less when you sell it. FX and top-up fees are not included here.
