Verdict

A reasonable self-custody card in the UK and EEA if 1% cashback on the free tier is enough. Treat the higher tiers as an investment decision: they mean locking up COCA tokens, and claims are capped every month.

How we read the terms: Starter tier: free virtual card, no annual fee, 1% cashback. FX is not scored because COCA only states zero FX fees on direct currency pairs. The 8% Elite tier needs 30,000 staked COCA.

Not rated yet: verified criteria cover 55% of the weight, and we need 70% to give an overall score. How scores are calculated.

Pros

  • Self-custody: your balance sits in a smart wallet you control
  • 1% cashback on the free Starter tier, paid in stablecoins
  • Free virtual card and no annual fee
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay

Cons

  • Higher tiers require staking (locking) COCA tokens
  • A monthly claim limit caps how much cashback you can withdraw ($15 a month on Starter)
  • Not available to US residents
  • COCA’s pages give different free ATM allowances ($200 vs $250)

Overview

COCA is a wallet app whose Visa debit card is provided in collaboration with Wirex. Your “banking account” is a smart-contract wallet you control, and each card payment approves only the amount being paid.

Cashback ranges from 1% on Starter to 8% on Elite, which requires staking 30,000 COCA. How much you can claim each month is limited by your tier’s claim capacity; unclaimed rewards carry over.

We haven’t run a hands-on test of this card; this review is based on the issuer’s published documents linked on this page.

Is it worth it? Quick math

Entry tier, $1,000 a month of everyday spending in the card’s currency, first year, compared with a plain 2% cash-back card. Only the verified figures above are used.

Cashback earned
$120
Card fees (issuance + 12 × monthly)
$0
Net value, year one
$120
Plain 2% cash-back card
$240

At this spend, a plain 2% cash-back card earns $120 more. Higher tiers pay more, but may need staking, a balance or a paid plan — see the tiers above.

Cashback paid in a volatile token can be worth more or less when you sell it. FX and top-up fees are not included here.

COCA Card: common questions

Do I need to stake COCA tokens for cashback?

Not for the 1% Starter rate. COCA’s current tier terms say higher tiers, up to 8% on Elite, require staking COCA tokens, which stay locked while you hold the tier.

Is the COCA Card available in the US?

No. The United States isn’t on COCA’s list of countries of residence that can get the card.
